instructions: read carefully please... |
Sunday 7th September: Horse races will take place on the racecourse located close to the runways of the airfield. Trucks and vans will drive as soon as 11h00 LT, while public should arrive early during the afternoom. This will induce traffic near the threshold of runway 27, this runway being the most frequently used. Consequently, we recommand when possible to plan arrivals before 11h00 local time. On the other hand, expect a high approach on runway 27. Here after several photos showing the 27 threshold during a horse race day (click to enlarge). Note the 1.20m high fence situated 90m from the displaced threshold. Note also the traffic below the short finale 27.
On the other hand, please watch out to the prison situated within the circuit. Its overflying is strictly forbidden. Keep in mind that the airfield uses the common frequency 123.50 shared with other airfields. That is to say that all messages should begin by "St Omer". There is no manned tower and messages are passed "in the air", without any response. Radio is not mandatory. But if you have one on board, we recommend to use it, even in english if not in french langage... |

Note that this apply only to aircraft duly registrated for the fly-in. For the newcomers, participants are welcome at the entry of the hangar, under a white tent. There you will receive badges and will be invited to pay for meals (payment in cash, 15€ per person per meal). Note that a breakfast can be provided Sunday morning for people who are camping on the airfield. See you soon at St Omer ! |
